How to get unstuck when you’re being mean to yourself in your business
What’s the most compassionate thought you can have for yourself?
Pre-s: the doors are now open to my gentle membership The Messy Middle for the next week if you’d love to be supported to root into more courage, resilience, and intention in your business. And there’s a bonus available until tomorrow where I’ll create a custom audio coaching pack to support you in your business 🎙
“I don’t know why I’m just not recording episodes for my podcast again when I know it moves the needle in my marketing”
“Why do I need to take so many naps rights now when my business really needs me to focus on audience growth?”
“I thought I’d have made more progress on creating my new group program by now - why am I going so slow?”
These are the things my clients share with me in our Voxer voice note chats sometimes.
The self-judgement they feel about why they’re not doing all the things they think they should be doing.
The fear they feel that they’re not doing enough and going fast enough in their business.
My job as their gentle business coach? To root them back into compassion instead.
Because judging ourselves and shaming ourselves leads us nowhere.
It just keeps us stuck in doubt and overwhelm and fear.
So here’s what I ask them: what’s the most compassionate thought you can have for yourself here?
Perhaps they’re not working on their podcast because they’re feeling drained from a challenging season in their personal life and they need to make the process feel way more easeful and simple if they’re going to get back to recording.
They probably need to take more naps right now because they’re a human being who needs rest and tenderness and care if they then want to also have the energy they need to pour into a season of gentle growth in their business without burning out in the process too.
And maybe they’re going slower than they thought they would because the expectations they first put on themselves were wildly unfair. And perhaps they’ve actually made more progress than they realise - it just looks like eating the elephant one sustainable bite at a time.
And here’s what happens when they root into a place of compassion not judgement for themselves: they crack open the next steps that will actually support them to move forward in their business - and how they can continue to find joy and calm throughout the process too.
You’re not doing it wrong if your business journey looks messier and more human than you expected it to be.
If you’re not charging ahead towards your goals at a non-stop pace.
If you need more rest, calm, and space to breathe than you thought you were allowed to choose for yourself.
I’ve supported hundreds of clients over the past decade to gently thrive in their business and over and over again I see how compassion for ourselves and our humannness is the gateway to sustainable business growth.
So the next time you’re being mean to yourself in your business ask: what’s the most compassionate thought I can have for myself here?
Let that crack open gentle and sustainable next steps instead of trying to force yourself to push through and ignore your humannness.
Until next time,
Jen
Thank you - you always ground me.
