I am VERY excited for what I have lined up for my reading list this spring.
Lots of romance, a little memoir and self help, and new and recent releases from some favourite authors too.
How To End A Love Story by Yulin Kuang
I’ve heard so many good things about this book. Set in the writers room of the main characters TV adaptation of her novels, she finds someone from her past is also working on the show too. Described as an enemies to lovers romance which is one of my favourite tropes - Yulin Kuang is also adapting and directing Emily Henry’s Beach Read so I have very high hopes for a story of her own.
I adored Falon Ballard’s previous two novels so it’s a no brainer to me that I’ll love this one too. A former actress turned screenwriter is diving into a new project after a hiatus from the industry but someone she has a complicated past with is cast as the romantic lead. I’m very excited for the delightful read this will definitely be,
Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez
I’ve heard lots of good things about this book - the two main characters both feel cursed with being the person someone dates before they find their soulmate so they decide to date each other to cancel each other’s curse out. I think we can all see where this one is going - the rave review on Goodreads tells me I’m probably going to fall in love with this book.
When I Think Of You by Myah Ariel
A second chance romance, another favourite trope of mine, where a past love offers the main character a job on his new film that could turn her career around. I’m now just realising that quite a lot of these books are set in the entertainment industry which wasn’t purposeful but seems to be a trend for my spring reading list!
Slow Productivity by Cal Newport
I really enjoyed Deep Work and Digital Minimalism so I’ve been looking forward to this book since it was announced. As someone who already has a very non-traditional approach to productivity as a chronically ill working parent I’m curious to see how relevant this book may feel to me but I’m looking forward to seeing how inspires me and sparks new perspective.
It’s always an exciting day when a new Emily Henry book is released. Funny Story tells the story of Daphne and Miles, who are both recently broken hearted as their partners left them for each other. They become roomates and friendship and romance ensues.
You Are Here by David Nicholls
I recently watched the Netflix adaptation of One Day and it reminded me of how much I loved reading the book many years ago now so I was very excited to see that David Nicholls has a new novel coming out soon. Described as ‘a novel of first encounters, second chances and finding the way home’ - I’d be surprised if I don’t fall in love with this one.
I Came All This Way To Meet You by Jami Attenberg
I’ve read and loved Jami’s novels in the past so I’m really looking forward to her recent memoir about her creative journey as a writer.
The Idea Of You by Robinne Lee
As the Prime Video adaptation will soon be released I really want to read the book beforehand - sharing the trailer is probably the best way to describe the story.
Once More With Feeling by Elissa Sussman
This has been sat on my bedside waiting for me to read for a while now so it’s on my to-read list for this Spring - I adored her previous book Funny You Should Ask so I’d be very surprised if I didn’t love this one too.
What’s on your reading list for Spring?
Until next time,
Jen
Finally giving myself space to be on Substack and of course I hurry to yours ❤️ would love to know which romance novel you recommend the most from this list, I’m looking to give one a try!
I went to high school with Yulin so I was pretty floored to see her book at the top of your list!! How surreal, haha! I haven’t talked to her in a few years so I didn’t realize she wrote a book during the pandemic. That’s so cool. I always love hearing about what you’re reading, Jen! Thanks for sharing!
