I’m feeling pretty low on spoons this week whilst also feeling inspired and energised in my business - which is quite the strange blend to try and navigate between.
This feels like a summer of gentle marketing experiments for me and I’m really excited to bring some ideas to life and see how they flow, yet I also want and need to continue to run my business at a very slow and gentle pace too alongside the realities of my health and having a very energetic 4 year old.
So here’s how I’m grounding myself:
First I have the boundary of my 8-10 hour workweek.
This is the most amount of hours I’m willing to work each week because I know that any more than that and I’m pushing my health beyond it’s capacity. As much as I want to gently experiment in this season, it needs to fit into my existing workweek instead of asking more from me than it feels sustainable to give.
Thankfully I’ve designed the core of my business to be very spacious and with lots of breathing room so I do feel like I have the capacity to explore some of my new ideas at a pace that feels good to me.
Second I prioritise rest first every single day.
My rest isn’t build around my work, instead my work is built into my day around my rest. A slow and gentle morning routine, a long and nourishing lunch break, a nap in the middle of the day if I need it - these are what my to-do list are built around. Without this I find it impossible to manage the challenges of my health alongside my business so my humanness always has to come first in my work.
And third I trust that good enough gets to be good enough.
The best I can do with the energy I have is the best I can do. For example this week I want to record a messy middle vlog to share with my newsletter and I know that I don’t have the capacity to do all the fancy and beautiful editing I see many others do - and that’s okay. With the energy I have I’ll do the best I can and that gets to be more than enough.
So here’s what my workweek looks like this week:
Monday: I dived in with clients in Voxer, recorded a private podcast for my group program, did a short interview with one of the members of YS&SB for an upcoming mini podcast project, and had a 1:1 call with one of my wonderful clients to wrap up my workday.
Tuesday: I did another short interview for this new podcast project, I dived in with clients in Voxer, and I got my first ads set up in Meta for a marketing experiment for this summer.
Wednesday: I always take Wednesday’s off to rest, recharge, and fill my cup. Sometimes I go read from a coffee shop, or go to the cinema, or get brunch with a friend. This week my plan is to curl up on the sofa with Atmosphere and do some meal prep for the rest of the week.
Thursday: I’ll be catching up with clients again in Voxer and then recording a private podcast for my membership and hopefully recording a mini vlog too.
Friday: I always take Friday’s off and hang out with my son. Sometimes we go on mini adventures - last week I took him strawberry picking - and often we just go to the park and maybe hang out in a coffee shop together whilst he listens to an audiobook and I read mine.
I’ll work 8-10 hours this week as usual and most of all I really want to prioritise my rest this week as I can tell that my body is feeling low on spoons.
Never does a week go by that I’m not so damn grateful for this simple and spacious business of mine that only asks very part time hours of me.
I also have a free mini toolkit called Design Your Part Time Business Model that walks you through how you can create more breathing room and flexibility in your business without compromising on making a steady and thriving income in your work if that can be supportive for you.
How are you feeling in your business this week? What are you prioritising and working on? And how are you prioritising your rest and humanness too? I’d love to connect in the comments!
Until next time,
Jen
Always so inspiring. Thank you for sharing how your week looks, and showing how it’s possible 💫
