I want this element in Strava and other workout-tracking apps. All Strava rewards me for is running the fastest I ever have! (Which has not happened for several years.) I want rewards for "hey, you ran even though it was hot out!" "you squeezed in some exercise!"
I’ve had such a similar experience! I started tracking habits after you shared your post a while back about that. But then I hit a period where I wasn’t able to tick anything off for a week or 2. I still went back to doing some of my habits, but I was just no longer tracking them… and for me that was okay. It’s fascinating to see how you and your husband created this tracker in Notion! I’m curious to see how you find it working for you. And kudos for your self awareness on this journey!!
I’m really enjoying it so far - it’s shifted my relationship with my habits to be more flexible and invitations in my days to do the things I know nourish me, instead of being external goals I have to try and keep up with!
I’m so glad you are always finding ways to just meet yourself where you are at with what is happening. I was wondering if there would be a point where you felt a certain way about the habit app. After trying something similar, it kind of made me feel worse when I saw the stats of when I just wasn’t able to get what I wanted done bc of the seasons of major struggle I have been weathering. I do think the app has its time and place—it helped me get on track with a couple small things but I had to just let go after a while! Well done and thank you for sharing 💛
I’m sorry habit tracking made you feel crappy too. I’m really enjoying this new process but it’s one big experiment - no right or wrong way that’s universal for everyone!
I'm so sorry you've hit a rough patch. I'm also in one so I know how difficult it is not only with the physical ailments but also managing my reaction to those ailments. It can be a struggle not to interpret my minimal progress each day negatively.
I'm so glad you brough up the idea of tracking your progress in terms of Good Days, OK Days, and Slow Days. I'm creating a course to help people make a wellness plan when they struggle with the unpredicatability of chronic illness. As part of the program, I'm offering exactly that solution.
I've been following this idea for myself for years. On slow days, my goals will be quite minimal. Yesterday I was happy to be sitting up in bed instead of lying down. I'm really interested to hear how this idea works for you. Please give an update once you've done it for a while.
Good luck, Jen. I hope your health improves and this rough patch passes quickly.
I’m so sorry you’re navigating a rough patch too, Julia. Love that we have the same approach to good days, okay days, and slow days. Your course sounds awesome! And thank you - I hope your rough patch eases quickly too :)
I think this is so great you had this realization, Jen! I've also pulled back some of my daily habits this month. I realized I was being too ambitious and often felt I was working hard but had nothing too show for it. You're still working on the life you want even if you don't do something every day and I feel so much better.

Yes - those would be really beautiful ways for an app to encourage you!

P.S. I love notion.

As I was reading this I was thinking how I would come comment to suggest notion. So cool you collaborated with your husband on this!
I was pleasantly surprised at how much we could do with Notion for this!

My new mantra is: habits are invitations, not expectations!
